Iran has vehemently rejected a call for “unconditional surrender” from U.S. President Donald Trump today, as its capital, Tehran, continues to be pounded by intensified Israeli airstrikes. The conflict, now in its sixth day, has triggered a mass exodus from the city, prompting neighboring Turkey to significantly bolster security measures along its shared border with Iran.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a defiant address, dismissed President Trump’s ultimatum, asserting that the Iranian nation “will not surrender” and warning of “irreparable damage” should the United States directly intervene. His statements underscore the deepening crisis that has seen continuous missile exchanges and aerial bombardments between Iran and Israel.
Across Tehran, explosions have been reported throughout the day, as Israeli warplanes target various sites. News sources confirm that Israeli strikes have hit critical infrastructure, including centrifuge production facilities, weapons manufacturing sites, and even the Iranian internal security headquarters. These sustained attacks have inflicted substantial damage, and a pervasive sense of fear has gripped the city’s inhabitants.
The severity of the situation has led to widespread civilian displacement. Thousands of Tehran residents are reported to be fleeing the capital, with major arteries leading out of the city jammed with vehicles. President Trump, who recently urged Tehran’s roughly 10 million inhabitants to “evacuate immediately,” has indicated that he is still weighing options regarding direct U.S. military involvement, stating, “I may do it, I may not do it. Nobody knows what I’m going to do.” Casualty figures remain a grim concern, with hundreds reportedly killed in Iran and dozens in Israel since the conflict began on June 13.
In response to the escalating hostilities, Turkish National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler confirmed today that Turkey has intensified security at its border with Iran. The measures are primarily a precaution against a potential influx of migrants fleeing the conflict, though Turkey has also strongly condemned Israel’s strikes on Iran, labeling them “unlawful attacks” and expressing concerns over broader regional destabilization.
The international community remains on edge, with calls for de-escalation from various nations. The Iranian mission to the United Nations has formally requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting, citing “mounting and undeniable evidence of direct US involvement” in what it describes as a dangerously escalating situation.
