Qatar’s Ministry of Defense confirmed on Sunday that Iranian missiles targeted the U.S. Al-Udeid Air Base, marking a dramatic escalation in regional tensions following American strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

The Qatari air defense system, in coordination with U.S. forces stationed at the base, successfully intercepted the missiles. No casualties or infrastructure damage were reported, according to defense officials.

Speaking shortly after the incident, Qatar’s Defense Minister described the attack as “a grave violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” warning that Doha “reserves the right to respond in line with international law.” The minister emphasized that Qatar’s security would not be compromised and that diplomatic consultations were ongoing with allies in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and NATO partners.

The Al-Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East, is home to more than 10,000 American personnel and plays a strategic role in counterterrorism and regional surveillance operations.

The missile strike reportedly came as part of Iran’s broader retaliatory campaign—named “Annunciation of Victory”—following the U.S.-Israeli coalition’s airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Tehran claimed the base in Qatar was being used to coordinate those missions.

Sources close to Qatar’s foreign ministry said the government was not notified in advance of the strike and has since summoned the Iranian ambassador for clarification. Meanwhile, airspace above parts of the Gulf remains restricted, and commercial flights are being rerouted.
