Iran Retaliates with Missile Strike on Al‑Udeid and Iraqi Bases

Iran’s armed forces launched missile strikes on U.S. military installations in Qatar and Iraq on Monday in what it described as a direct response to recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The strikes mark a sharp escalation in the unfolding regional crisis.
The Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar—home to around 10,000 U.S. personnel—was among the key targets. Iran’s state media described the operation as a “powerful and destructive” response. However, Qatar’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that its air defense systems successfully intercepted the incoming missiles with support from U.S. forces. No casualties or damage were reported.
“This attack is a serious breach of Qatar’s sovereignty,” said Qatar’s Defense Minister in an official statement. “We reserve the right to respond in accordance with international law.”
In Iraq, Iran also targeted the Ain al-Asad Air Base, which houses U.S. and coalition forces. While limited damage was reported at that location, no casualties have been confirmed.
A senior U.S. official told NBC News that bases in Bahrain and other Gulf locations were also placed on high alert after receiving intelligence warnings of possible Iranian retaliation. As a precaution, airspace over parts of the Gulf region was temporarily restricted.
The missile strikes follow U.S. air raids over the weekend on three major Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—carried out with B-2 bombers in what Washington described as a “preemptive containment strike.”
Global reactions poured in on Monday. The United Nations called for urgent de-escalation, warning that continued military action could destabilize the region. The Gulf Cooperation Council, France, and several Arab states also condemned Iran’s actions and urged restraint from both Tehran and Washington.
