Cameroon’s elections management body has confirmed that 81 candidates have been officially approved to contest in the country’s upcoming presidential election scheduled for October 2025.
The list includes representatives from several political parties as well as independent candidates. This is the highest number of presidential aspirants in the country’s electoral history, according to figures released by Elections Cameroon (ELECAM).
Candidates now proceed to the next phase of the electoral process, which includes formal campaigning and preparations for nationwide voting.
President Paul Biya, who has ruled Cameroon since 1982, has not publicly announced whether he will seek another term. However, his party, the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), remains active in pre-election activities.
Voter registration and electoral preparations are ongoing across the country. ELECAM has stated that it will provide further details on ballot design and logistics in the coming weeks.
Cameroonians are expected to go to the polls in October to elect their next president. The exact date of the election is yet to be formally confirmed by the electoral authority.
