MONROVIA — A state witness in the ongoing economic sabotage trial at Criminal Court ‘C’ has testified that more than L$1.05 billion and US$500,000 linked to Joint Security funding for Liberia’s 2023 elections were flagged for irregularities, according to a report by The Liberian Investigator.

The report, associated with the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC)—identified “irregular transfers” during testimony before the court.

According to the testimony, investigators reviewing the funds encountered significant gaps in documentation and financial tracking, raising concerns about how the money was managed and disbursed.

The funds were allocated for Joint Security operations during the 2023 electoral period, a critical time requiring coordinated deployment of security personnel and logistics support.

While the prosecution is relying on the testimony to support allegations of economic sabotage, the court has not yet made any determination of wrongdoing. Defense lawyers are expected to challenge both the findings and their interpretation as proceedings continue.

The trial before Criminal Court ‘C’ is part of an ongoing economic sabotage case involving former Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel Tweah and several other officials of the previous administration.

The case by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), centers on allegations of unlawful handling and mismanagement of public funds in violation of Liberia’s financial and criminal laws.

Prosecutors allege that the defendants played key roles in authorizing and executing financial transactions that did not follow established public financial management procedures. The court is examining a range of transactions and decisions linked to the handling of government funds during their time in office.
