DAKAR, SENEGAL – Senegalese-born TikTok star Khaby Lame has been named an official ambassador for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympics, organizers confirmed, as preparations intensify for the first Olympic event to be held on African soil. Lame, who is among the most followed content creators globally with over 160 million followers on TikTok, is expected to play a prominent role in promoting the Games, particularly among young audiences across Africa and beyond.
According to organizers, he will participate in key moments of the event, including the Olympic Torch Relay, which is scheduled to arrive in Dakar on September 12, 2026. His involvement is also aimed at encouraging broader youth participation and promoting inclusivity in sports, especially in underserved communities.
Born in Mbacké, Senegal, Lame said his role as ambassador carries personal significance. He emphasized his desire to support young African talent and help showcase the continent’s potential on the global stage.“I want t o inspire young people and show that Africa has talent, energy, and a strong future,” Lame said in remarks shared by organizers.
The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games will run from October 31 to November 13, 2026, with events hosted across Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly. Approximately 2,700 athletes, primarily aged 17 and under, are expected to compete in a wide range of disciplines. The Games are widely viewed as a landmark moment for Africa’s sporting history, offering an opportunity to spotlight youth development, infrastructure growth, and the continent’s growing role in global sports.
