ECC Deploys Observation Mission to Nimba’s Border Town – Buutuo Ahead of Representative By-Election

The Elections Coordinating Committee (ECC) has deployed a special election observation mission to Buutuo, a major border town in Zoe Geh Statutory District, Nimba County. The team arrived on August 11, 2025, to observe the final preparations for the Representative By-Election for Electoral District #5, Nimba County, which is slated for August 12, 2025. Board Chair, Malcolm Wleemogar Joseph, heads the ECC team on this Special Election Observation Mission.
In its initial report, the ECC noted the presence of key stakeholders on the ground, including officials from the National Elections Commission (NEC), personnel from the Liberia National Police, and polling staff. The ECC also observed that an international observer mission, the UN Human Rights High Commission, had visited the area.
The ECC team witnessed the deployment and distribution of election materials and polling staff to several voting precincts, and the materials were turned over to the Statutory District Superintendent for safekeeping. The atmosphere in the historic town appears calm, and citizens are going about their normal duties ahead of the polls.
