Liberia Faces FIFA Suspension as Election Dispute Hits Deadline

MONROVIA: The Liberia Football Association says it has received a final warning from FIFA to resolve an ongoing legal dispute threatening the country’s football governance, with a deadline set for April 9.

According to the LFA, the warning follows a ruling by a civil court in Monrovia that granted a preliminary injunction halting the association’s electoral process pending judicial determination. FIFA views such court intervention as third-party interference, which violates its statutes governing member associations.

The global football body warned that failure to resolve the impasse could lead to the immediate suspension of Liberia from international football. Such a suspension would result in the loss of all membership rights, including participation in international competitions and access to FIFA development funding, while other member associations would be barred from engaging in sporting activities with Liberia.

The dispute comes just weeks before scheduled elections within the LFA, raising tensions within the football community. While concerns have been raised in some quarters about possible sanctions against individuals, no official confirmation has been issued by FIFA regarding disciplinary action against specific figures.

The situation remains fluid as stakeholders face mounting pressure to resolve the crisis and avoid sanctions that could isolate Liberian football on the global stage.
