Cairo — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held talks on Sunday with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo, with discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
According to official statements released after the meeting, the two leaders reviewed existing ties and explored avenues for deeper collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including political coordination, security cooperation, and regional stability.
President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and state-building efforts, while President Mohamud highlighted Somalia’s interest in broadening partnerships with key regional actors as the country continues its recovery and reform agenda.
The talks also touched on developments in the Horn of Africa and broader regional issues, with both sides underscoring the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and collective approaches to addressing shared security and development challenges.
Somalia and Egypt have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, with recent engagements reflecting Cairo’s growing involvement in East African and Red Sea regional affairs.
Officials said the meeting forms part of ongoing diplomatic consultations aimed at reinforcing political ties and advancing cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
