Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno on Monday reaffirmed his government’s steadfast commitment to implementing the country’s ambitious decentralization policy, a crucial reform aimed at significantly enhancing citizen participation in local governance and fostering grassroots development.
President Deby made his remarks during the opening of a five-day national seminar on decentralization held in the capital, N’Djamena. He described the policy as a “concrete expression of the will of the people expressed during the constitutional referendum,” underscoring its foundation in popular mandate and its significance as a “first in the history of our country.”
The decentralization drive seeks to empower local communities by bringing decision-making processes closer to their realities and ensuring more transparent management of resources at the local level. President Deby emphasized that this reform is designed to allow each autonomous community across Chad to unlock and develop its unique potential, thereby contributing more directly to national progress.
The ongoing seminar is expected to culminate in the drafting of a comprehensive national roadmap for the decentralization program’s full implementation. This initiative represents a pivotal step in Chad’s governance reforms, aiming to create a more inclusive and responsive system that directly addresses the needs and aspirations of its diverse populace.
