A 22-year-old woman identified as Massa Crawford of the Doe Community is undergoing medical treatment after sustaining a gunshot wound during a police operation Friday night along Kesselly Boulevard, according to a statement from the Liberia National Police (LNP).

The incident occurred around 9:30 PM on July 18 during a routine patrol by officers of the LNP’s Anti-Robbery Unit. Police say the patrol team encountered individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activity on motorbikes. During an attempted arrest, one of the suspects reportedly fired a weapon, prompting an immediate response from officers.

Crawford was struck in the right side of her jaw. She was rushed to the JFK Medical Center, where she is currently receiving treatment. Authorities confirmed that one suspect has been arrested and is in police custody.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident and promised it will be “thorough and transparent.”

“We deeply regret the injury caused to Massa Crawford and are working closely with her and her family to offer support during this difficult time,” the LNP stated.
