Meeting with leadership from the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA)—headed by Director-General Cyrus Saygbe, Sr.—President Boakai formally received two foundational frameworks: the National Fisheries Investment Plan and Implementation Roadmap Strategy, alongside the National Fisheries Management Strategy (2026–2036).
Grounded in over a year of rigorous field consultations and institutional research, the 10-year strategy attempts to balance a delicate economic equation: aggressively unlocking private-sector investment to drive wealth creation while safeguarding delicate marine ecosystems from over-exploitation. Under the newly endorsed investment plan, private capital is positioned as the primary engine for modernizing aquaculture, expanding industrial infrastructure, and improving processing capabilities.
"President Boakai’s endorsement gives vital momentum to NaFAA's institutional reforms," noted sector observers following the briefing, which also detailed the authority’s Third Quarter Performance Report.
Beyond long-term strategic planning, NaFAA leadership updated the President on immediate operational milestones, including preparations for World Fisheries Day on November 21, 2026. The national celebration, slated for Harper in Maryland County, will mark the official opening of NaFAA's first regional office—a crucial step toward decentralizing maritime services and bringing regulatory oversight directly to coastal fishing communities. With executive backing secured and strategic blueprints finalized, NaFAA's central challenge shifts from policy formulation to execution, as Monrovia seeks to transform its coastal resources into a sustainable, competitive pillar of national development.
