The strategic partnership establishes a framework to construct two dedicated recycling depots targeting plastic recovery across the capital city. Project projections indicate the pilot facility operations will directly generate between 60 and 100 jobs, with additional recruitment planned as waste collection routes, transport fleets, and processing capabilities expand across Montserrado County.
The agreement focuses on building local technical capacity alongside infrastructure. Beyond basic refuse collection, the initiative incorporates workforce training programs for municipal staff, commercial integration for Liberian entrepreneurs, and formalized waste recovery protocols designed to convert municipal trash into commercial enterprise.
The deal emerged directly from the Maryland–Liberia Trade Mission, led by Prince George’s County Councilwoman At-Large Wala Blegay. The trade initiative operationalizes key provisions of the broader Maryland–Liberia Sister-State MOU signed earlier this year, transforming subnational diplomatic commitments into concrete capital investments for Monrovia’s urban infrastructure.
